Personal Loan Lender Reviews and Side-by-Side Comparisons
Lender marketing pages lead with the lowest rate they offer. Reviews on this site lead with the whole published range, the fee taken out before funding, and who the lender says it serves, quoted from the lender's own pages with the date we checked. This hub explains how the reviews work, discloses how we are paid, and links every review and comparison.
Partner disclosure. Loans Generator is compensated by some of the lenders reviewed or compared on these pages when you connect with them through our site. Compensation does not change the published terms we quote, which come from each lender's own website on the date shown. It can affect which lenders appear in our matching flow.
Key takeaways
- Compare the full APR range and the origination fee, not the advertised lowest rate.
- The APR includes origination charges, per the CFPB, so it is the fairer comparison number.
- Published ranges below were checked on each lender's own site on October 1, 2026.
- Checking rates through a soft inquiry does not affect your credit score, per the CFPB.
How do we review a personal loan lender?
Every review follows the same order so you can compare them:
- Published terms. APR range, loan amounts, terms and fees, quoted from the lender's own site with an access date.
- Eligibility. What the lender says about credit, income, cosigners and state availability. If the lender publishes no minimum score, we say so rather than guessing one.
- Cost in dollars. What the origination fee removes from your loan and what the total repayment looks like, computed with the origination fee calculator.
- Who it fits and who it does not. Including the borrowers who should look elsewhere.
- Disclosures. The partner relationship, if any, stated at the top.
We do not rank lenders as the top choice for everyone. The right lender depends on your credit band, amount and income type, which is why reviews hand off to personal loans by credit score.
How do published terms compare?
| Lender | Published APR range | Loan amounts | Origination fee | Terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best Egg | 6.99% to 35.99% | $2,000 to $50,000 (payment estimator) | Up to 9.99% | 36 or 60 months (payment estimator) |
| Upgrade | 7.74% to 35.99% | $1,000 to $50,000 | 5% in Upgrade's own worked example | 24 to 84 months |
| SoFi | 6.49% to 35.49% (with autopay and member discounts) | $5,000 to $100,000 | 0% to 7% | 2 to 7 years |

Figure: each bar spans the lender's published APR range on its own site, accessed October 1, 2026. The ranges nearly overlap, which is why your credit band, not the brand, sets most of the price.
The ranges look alike because they are. All three top out near 36%. The differences that change your cost are the origination fee and the loan size and term each lender will write.
Representative example. For a $5,000 loan at a 10% APR over 36 months, the monthly repayment would be $161.34. Over the term, the total repayment would amount to $5,808.24, with $808.24 in interest. The loan terms range from 6 months to 12 years, with APRs between 5.99% and 35.99%. The exact rate you receive depends on factors like your creditworthiness, loan size, and repayment schedule. Better rates are typically offered to those with excellent credit.

Common questions
Which personal loan lender has the lowest rate?
The lowest advertised rate goes only to the strongest applications. On their own sites, SoFi's published range starts at 6.49% with discounts, Best Egg's at 6.99% and Upgrade's at 7.74%. Your offer depends on your credit, income and loan details.
Do these lenders charge origination fees?
Best Egg states its loans include an origination fee of up to 9.99%. SoFi discloses a fee of 0% to 7% deducted from proceeds. Upgrade's own worked example shows a 5% fee. Check the fee in dollars on your offer.
Are you paid by the lenders you review?
Some of them, as the disclosure at the top of this page states. We quote published terms from each lender's site with the date checked so you can verify them.
Does checking my rate with several lenders hurt my credit?
Prequalification uses a soft inquiry, which the CFPB says does not affect your scores. Submitting a full application generally triggers a hard inquiry.
How do I choose between two lenders with similar ranges?
Compare the APR and total repayment on actual offers, then the fee, term options and any features you need, such as direct payment to creditors or a cosigner option. The comparisons above do this side by side.
